I have over twenty-six years of experience working with TGNC persons as part of their treatment teams, first in the San Francisco Bay Area, and now in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I have completed the coursework for the international gender health specialty certification through WPATH. I also convene a quarterly conversation on gender health with healthcare executives in Sioux Falls — this on-going effort has resulted in a number of practical changes locally (intake paperwork, electronic medical records, hospitality, bathrooms, etc.) and is impacting regional and national healthcare systems as well. I also offer training in TGNC health for businesses, schools/universities (including the USD Medical School), counselors and therapists.
In daily practice, using DSM-5 and WPATH criteria, I provide assessments and support for transgender persons who are working with primary care, endocrinology, and surgical teams in Sioux Falls and other locations in the U.S., including the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
I also have a decade of specialized training in gender-responsive trauma treatment and recovery. Among other things, I assisted in the creation of the first gender-responsive trauma treatment program for at-risk girls in California. In addition, I completed a post-doctoral clinical psychology residency focused on the assessment and treatment of Asperger’s Syndrome (hfASD) and ADHD. This additional training and experience is helpful because many TGNC persons also have histories of trauma and/or Asperger’s Syndrome. Currently over half of my clients identify as TGNC/LGBTQ+.
