I am a doctoral student at Spalding University’s School of Professional Psychology. I provide LGBTQ-affirming psychotherapy as a practicum student at Compass Counseling & Psychology Services under the supervision of a licensed psychologist, Lisa Steelsmith, Psy.D., M. Eng. Most of my clients pay for sessions that are at a sliding-scale/reduced rate.
Many of my clients seek therapy to address issues related to depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, trauma, or identity-based stress or discrimination (e.g., sexism, racism, etc.). In addition, I have a strong specialization in working with individuals from the LGBTQ community, including those who want to explore their identity, people who want extra help coping with non-affirming environments/people, or folks who simply want to have their identity recognized and affirmed while getting help with something unrelated to their sexual orientation/gender identity. I also have training in writing referral letters for people seeking gender-affirming medical care (e.g., hormone replacement therapy), and I can provide continued support through one’s transition.
My LGBTQ-affirming approach to therapy is informed by multiple sources, including my social justice-focused graduate training and my personal identity as a queer person. I am also heavily invested in staying up-to-date with the latest LGBTQ research, and I conduct my own research projects that focus on the within-group dynamics of the LGBTQ community. Additionally, I am a student member/affiliate of WPATH and the American Psychological Association’s Society for the Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity.
