I have sought training outside my formal education to understand increase my knowledge base in diversity, culterual competency and LGBTQ health and social service needs. I did so having experienced and witnessed increased risk factors that account for health disparities in these population groups. Having been raised in foreign countries until I entered college, I was keenly aware of prejudice and bias towards my gender, faith and race and determined to explore and unwind any of my own prejudices. I had and still have a passion for working with cultural humility approach.
For this, I knew I needed to become more comfortable with my own background, life experiences and trauma to be able to help or serve as a conduit for help for others. I have an innate respect for the power of facilitation and education that can become a reciprocal dynamic for vulnerability and shared intimacy as mind and body begin to recover and heal. I am devoted to continuous learning through a content-centered model versus problem-centered focus and seek to offer this to our clients through programs and providers with well-established values and attitudes that progressively develop over time and life experiences as health is encouraged to return.
