My name is Natalie and I identify as a lesbian. I have been married since 2022 and we have three fur-babies. I currently am an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic who is certified through NREMT and the state of Indiana. I have a bachelor’s degree from MCPHS University in premedical health studies with minors in biology and health psychology. In college, I conducted multiple projects related to the LGBTQIA+ community. One of these projects identified gaps in preprofessional and healthcare programs surrounding the training on providing culturally competent care to patients of the LGBTQIA+ community. I presented my work at the undergraduate research conference at MCPHS University in April 2021, where I offered a mini-training session to attendees on how to create an inclusive care environment for LGBTQIA+ patients. I also focused my senior capstone project on the historical negative impact the medical community has had related to providing care to intersex individuals. I evaluated how intersex people were portrayed in media, connecting these findings to how intersex people are treated in healthcare, and proposes efforts to improve the relationship between these two communities, in hopes to ultimately improve the care that intersex people receive. I have been a volunteer at the Pride Center of Terre Haute intermittently since 2022. I am currently applying to medical school throughout the country where I hope to continue advocacy for the LGBTQIA+ community within the medical world.
