Tree of Life Counseling was started in 2009 due to a lack of mental health providers to assist transgender populations in receiving the medical care they needed. Tree of Life Counseling was particularly affirmative therapy for LGBQ+&T individuals is based on the premise thatLGBQ+&T identities and heterosexual identities are equally valid. Regardless of how you identify, we don’t make the assumption that your identity is the reason for seeking therapy.
Shāna’s areas of knowledge are gender and sexual orientation concerns, law enforcement and military critical incident/job-related issues, adults with ADHD, and adjustment to acquired injury/illness. Her colleagues and other professionals in the medical community have identified her as a Gender Specialist for children, adolescents, and adults. Shāna’s professional training and years of clinical experience qualify her to provide evaluations and referrals for the transgender populations in order to begin cross-sex hormone treatment and/or gender affirmation surgery. Shāna is a licensed professional counselor supervisor (LPCS), distance credentialed counselor (DCC), and a certified rehabilitation counselor (CRC), and a WPATH Certification Candidate,
Shāna received the 2013 ALGBTIC Service Award from the American Counseling Association for her work with the LGBTQQIA community, then in 2018 Guilford Green’s Service Award for her work with the transgender community. She helped establish the non-profit SETAI (Southeastern Transgender Ally Initiative), assisted in establishing a chapter of Transforming Families NC and Allies, and is on the Board of PFLAG in Greensboro, NC.
