Hi, I’m Cara Waters, a Licensed Professional Counselor passionate about helping people heal from trauma, reclaim their sense of self, and build healthier, more authentic relationships.

As the founder of Cara Waters Counseling, I specialize in working with individuals navigating complex trauma, codependency, people-pleasing, attachment wounds, relationship challenges, anxiety, and life transitions. My work is deeply informed by both professional training and lived experience. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, and someone who has done my own healing work, I understand how difficult it can be to untangle yourself from old patterns and create a different life.

I hold a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling and am licensed in Texas and Colorado. Throughout my career, I have dedicated myself to helping clients move beyond insight alone and create lasting change through evidence-based and experiential approaches, including EMDR, parts work, somatic interventions, attachment-focused therapy, and nervous system regulation. I believe healing happens when people feel safe enough to explore their stories with curiosity, compassion, and courage.

In addition to my clinical work, I am the creator of The Reclaimed Therapist on Substack, where I write about trauma recovery, codependency, emotional healing, relationships, and personal transformation. I am passionate about making mental health concepts accessible and helping people understand that they are not broken, they are often responding exactly as they learned to survive.

My mission is to help people break free from the patterns that keep them stuck, reconnect with their authentic selves, and build lives rooted in self-trust, self-respect, and emotional freedom. I believe meaningful change is possible at any stage of life, and I am honored to walk alongside clients as they do that work.

I currently provide virtual therapy services for individuals residing in Texas and Colorado. I look forward to supporting you on your journey toward healing, growth, and reclaiming yourself.
