Hi! I’m Douglas Van Druff (she/they), an Indigenous transgender woman and Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA) in Washington State. My lived experiences inform my commitment to providing LGBTQ+-affirming, culturally responsive mental healthcare that respects each person’s identity, experiences, and autonomy.
I hold a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Western Washington University and have several years of experience in mental health, including residential eating disorder treatment and school-based counseling. My clinical interests include gender and identity development, anxiety, perfectionism, self-esteem, body image, and disordered eating. As an Indigenous person with Pima and Hopi family and community ties, I recognize the importance of culture, community, and belonging in shaping our experiences and well-being.
My commitment to LGBTQ+ well-being extends to research, education, and advocacy. I have worked with a research lab examining weight bias, contributed to the development of a body-image workbook intervention for 2SLGBTQ+ youth in Canada, and presented on supporting transgender and nonbinary students in school settings and at statewide conferences. These experiences have strengthened my interest in addressing the social and systemic factors that influence LGBTQ+ mental health.
My therapeutic approach draws from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed perspectives, relational-cultural theory, and expressive arts and narrative approaches. I value collaboration, authenticity, and humor in therapy, and strive to provide care that is trauma-informed, weight-inclusive, and free from judgment.
I provide individual counseling for adolescents (13+) and adults through Inside Passage Counseling in Bellingham, Washington, with in-person and telehealth options. I am particularly passionate about supporting LGBTQ+ individuals navigating identity, body image, self-esteem, and disordered eating. I believe therapy should make room for the complexity of each person’s experience while supporting them in building a life that feels authentic to who they are.
Please visit the Inside Passage Counseling website for additional information and scheduling. I look forward to the possibility of working with you!
