My PhD in Counseling Psychology involved intensive focus on multicultural issues, inclusive of full graduate courses on LGBTQ+ issues, Gender, and Sexuality. I also have worked on a Committee for the American Psychological Association’s Society for the Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity, co-authoring a guide for LGBTQ+ students who are navigating graduate training. In my internship training, I also developed and facilitated a “Difficult Dialogues” group for the LGBTQ+ student group at University of Illinois at Chicago, which aimed to assist members with healthy identity adjustment, and which also provided opportunity to discuss and receive support around aspects of oppression, marginalization, and stigmatization experiences. Throughout my clinical training and practice, I have received mentorship, education, and supervision and training in working specifically with the LGBTQ+ population, dedicating approximately 50% of my caseload to working with these clients. In addition, I have been involved in numerous research projects and have published articles on LGBTQ+ identity and mental health.
