Hello everyone!! I’m Erica Crawford, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker that practices via telehealth to provide mental health counseling to clients residing in Georgia and Florida. I identify as lesbian, my pronouns are she/her, and I am proud to be part of the LGBTQIA+ community. I have worked as a Social Worker for over 17 years and have experience in a wide-range of populations and settings. My work spans through community mental health, trauma-focused work with teenagers, working in the medical field with older/aging adults, in end-of-life care/hospice, in medical/radiation oncology with babies all the way up to adults and in private practice with a variety of clients. I find I utilize my therapeutic skills in all of the various settings I have been in. I find that, no matter the setting, people need someone who can truly listen to them, not judge them, and meet them where they are.
I can empathize with members of the LGBTQIA+ community who grew up in the bible belt and/or an evangelical household and the trauma that follows. I personally know and understand the struggle of grappling with a faith you may or may not desire to keep while finding where you fit in with peers, family, or your community while trying to best understand who you are as a queer person. I can deeply empathize with those who have experienced religious trauma, family rejection, and loss of direction along the journey to discovering the amazing person you are! I have a passion for creating a safe, inviting space for people from all backgrounds to feel like they are heard.
I have completed a variety of continuing education in my years post graduate school in the areas of trauma informed care, LGBTQ+ Trauma and Abuse Masterclass, grief and loss support, coping with complex/long-term medical diagnoses, and many more.
I truly strive to be an open, nonjudgemental listener to my clients while providing a safe space for them to come as they are and feel comfortable voicing their struggles. I work to have a calming, laid-back approach to therapy where my clients feel like it is a conversation and not the old comic of a therapist in a chair and client on the couch. I believe that most people will find themselves in need of someone trusted to talk to at some point in their life and I consider it an honor to be that person to my clients.
