Hello, I’m CJ Munro, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Colorado. I’m passionate about helping people move from simply surviving to building lives that feel more authentic, connected, and fulfilling. I often describe myself as a trauma translator, neurodivergent navigator, and coping creative because I enjoy helping people make sense of their experiences, understand their patterns, and discover tools that work for their unique brains, bodies, relationships, and lives.
My approach to therapy is holistic, collaborative, trauma-informed, and grounded in the belief that people have the capacity to heal and grow. I recognize that our experiences are shaped by more than individual thoughts and behaviors. Our identities, relationships, family systems, social environments, and experiences of acceptance or rejection can all influence our mental health. I strive to create a space where clients can explore these complexities without judgment and feel empowered to define what healing and well-being mean to them.
LGBTQIA+ Affirming Care and Identity Exploration
I provide affirming care for LGBTQIA+ individuals, including transgender, nonbinary, queer, lesbian, gay, bisexual, intersex, and questioning clients. I understand the importance of having a therapist who also identifies as trans/nonbinary and can relate to each person’s identity, language, pronouns, relationships, and lived experiences. My goal is to offer a supportive environment where clients do not have to defend or justify who they are to receive compassionate, effective care.
Our work may involve gender identity exploration, gender affirmation, coming out, navigating family or relationship dynamics, minority stress, internalized stigma, self-esteem, boundaries, or building a stronger sense of belonging. I also provide WPATH-related letters, as appropriate to the client’s needs and the applicable assessment process.
My affirming approach extends to diverse relationship structures, including consensual nonmonogamy and polyamory, as well as sex positive and kink positive care. I aim to approach sexuality and relationships with curiosity, respect, and an understanding that there is no single relationship structure or expression of sexuality that works for everyone. Therapy can be a place to explore desire, intimacy, communication, consent, sexual concerns, and relational agreements without shame.
Neurodivergent-Affirming and Trauma-Informed Perspectives
I enjoy working with neurodivergent individuals, including people navigating ADHD, autism, executive functioning challenges, emotional regulation, sensory needs, burnout, and difficulties feeling understood by others. Rather than assuming there is one right way to think, communicate, or navigate the world, I work collaboratively with clients to identify their strengths, understand their needs, and develop practical strategies that fit their lives. I also offer basic ADHD assessments within the scope of my practice.
Trauma is another important focus of my work. I support survivors of sexual abuse, sexual assault, and other distressing experiences as they navigate the effects of trauma on their emotions, relationships, sense of safety, and connection with themselves. I recognize that survival strategies often develop for understandable reasons, even when they later become exhausting or interfere with daily life. Together, we can work toward greater self-understanding, emotional regulation, safety, and choice.
I also work with anxiety, depression, interpersonal conflict, life transitions, relationship difficulties, and the challenges of developing a more compassionate relationship with yourself. My practice includes individuals, couples, and groups, with experience supporting children, teens, and adults.
My Therapeutic Approach
I draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Gestalt therapy, and trauma-informed care, integrating approaches according to each client’s goals and needs. I believe therapy should be collaborative rather than prescriptive. You bring your lived experience and expertise about your own life, and I bring clinical training, curiosity, and therapeutic tools to help us make sense of what you are experiencing.
Parts work, informed by IFS, can help clients understand the different feelings, needs, and protective responses that arise in challenging situations. Instead of viewing these internal experiences as flaws to eliminate, we can explore what they may be trying to communicate and develop a more compassionate relationship with ourselves. Gestalt and experiential approaches can support greater awareness of emotions, patterns, and present-moment experiences. My trauma-informed perspective helps guide this work at a pace that respects each client’s needs and sense of safety.
I also draw on somatic and relational perspectives to help clients explore how stress, past experiences, and interpersonal dynamics may affect their bodies and relationships. With couples and other relational work, I incorporate Gottman-informed approaches to support communication, understanding, and healthier patterns of connection.
In our first session, we will begin exploring your history, what brings you to therapy, what you hope to change, and what you want your life to look like. From there, we will collaborate on goals and identify practical tools and deeper areas of exploration that can support meaningful growth.
Education, Training, and Professional Development
I hold a Master of Arts degree from Naropa University, graduating in 2020, and am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado (LPC.0019026).
My professional training and areas of study include:
Gender and Sexuality certificate training through the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS), supporting my work with gender, sexuality, and related concerns.
Training in Gestalt therapy and experiential approaches.
Training in sex therapy and queer-related clinical issues.
Gottman-informed relational work to support couples and interpersonal dynamics.
EMDR foundational training to inform my understanding and treatment of trauma.
Trauma-informed approaches to supporting survivors and clients navigating anxiety, depression, and difficult life experiences.
Relational work with polyamorous and consensually nonmonogamous groups.
I integrate this training into a thoughtful, individualized approach and continue to value learning that strengthens my ability to support clients with diverse identities, experiences, and needs.
Groups, Support, and Community-Informed Care
In addition to individual and couples therapy, I offer group based support and resources. My work has included support groups focused on narcissistic abuse and coping strategies for neurodivergent individuals. I also provide clinical supervision. These offerings reflect my interest in helping people build practical skills, develop self understanding, and feel less alone as they navigate challenging experiences.
I strive to approach clients with cultural humility and an awareness that each person exists within a larger social and relational context. I welcome conversations about identity, accessibility, family expectations, relationships, and the experiences that shape how people understand themselves and move through the world.
Finding a Path Toward Healing
You do not need to have everything figured out before beginning therapy. You may arrive feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, anxious, exhausted, uncertain about your identity, or simply ready for something to change. Wherever you are starting, we can work together to understand what is happening, identify what matters most to you, and develop strategies that support the life you want to create.
My goal is not to make you fit someone else’s idea of wellness. It is to help you better understand yourself, build skills that work for you, strengthen your relationships, and move toward a life in which you can thrive rather than merely survive.
If you are looking for a therapist who offers LGBTQIA+ affirming, neurodivergent affirming, trauma informed, and sex positive care, I welcome you to reach out. I offer a free 15 minute consultation so we can discuss your needs, answer your questions, and explore whether working together feels like a good fit.
