    Overview
Welcome to the TGI Affirming Care & Equity Training! This comprehensive 2-part training provides healthcare providers, staff, and health plan administrators with essential knowledge and skills to support transgender, gender-diverse, and intersex (TGI) individuals. Developed to comply with California’s SB 923 and the Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) and Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) guidelines, this training explores foundational and advanced topics. Participants will gain insights into affirming care practices, cultural humility, and actionable strategies to address systemic barriers, fostering equity and improved health outcomes for TGI communities.

    Benefits
Learners who complete the TGI Affirming Care & Equity Training will receive an OutCare Certificate of Completion recognizing their participation in an SB 923-aligned curriculum. Participants will also fulfill California’s evidence-based cultural competency training requirements, ensuring compliance with state law and positioning themselves as leaders in TGI affirming care.

    Faculty
Part I: Dustin Nowaskie, MD, Founder & President, OutCare Health; Clinical Assistant Professor – Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California
Part II: Jemm Merritt-Feder, Founder, One Day @ a Time NC; TGI Advocate, Trainer, & Peer Support Specialist

    Learning Objectives
Upon completion, participants should be able to:

    • Understand the foundational principles of TGI affirming care, including key terminology and cultural humility.
    • Identify and address systemic barriers, health disparities, and stigmas affecting TGI individuals.
    • Implement effective communication techniques and trauma-informed care approaches specific to TGI communities.
    • Leverage actionable strategies to create affirming environments and improve health outcomes for TGI individuals across diverse healthcare settings.
    • Navigate the requirements of SB 923 to align organizational practices with California’s standards for affirming care.

    Medium/Method of Participation
The activity consists of a two-part, on-demand video course with assessments. Participants may complete training all at once or in increments. The total time of completion is approximately 2 hours. Progress is saved as you proceed through the training, so you can jump back in at any time. Of note, participants must complete the training within thirty (180) days of enrollment before access expires.
