    Learning Objectives
Upon completion, participants should be able to:

    • Appreciate and define the differences between sexual orientation and gender identity.
    • Practice ways to effectively communicate about sexual orientation and gender identity in affirming ways.
    • Summarize the size of LGBTQ+ communities, discrimination, and disparities.
    • Utilize interventions and resources for LGBTQ+ healthcare.

    Target Audience
This activity is intended for all healthcare professional learners and provider types.

    Statement of Need
Past research has shown a significant lack of national recognition and attention in LGBTQ+ education for learners and providers. For example, many healthcare professionals have never received any LGBTQ+ education, and for professionals who have received some training, it is typically minimal (i.e., less than 1 hour per year). Concurrently, many providers harbor implicit and explicit biases about LGBTQ+ people, do not feel well informed on LGBTQ+ care, and rarely routinely incorporate identity into healthcare delivery (see outcarehealth.org/research for more information regarding these significant concerns).

    Accreditation/Designation Statements
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of Med-IQ and OutCare Health. Med-IQ is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Med-IQ designates this enduring material for a maximum of 4.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other healthcare professionals who successfully complete the activity will receive a Certificate of Completion indicating the maximum credits available.

    Medium/Method of Participation
The CME activity consists of a 4.0-credit on-demand video course with assessments separated into 8 modules. Participants may complete The National LGBTQ+ Curriculum: Part I all at once or in increments. The total time of completion is approximately 4-5 hours. Progress is saved as you proceed through the training, so you can jump back in at any time. Of note, participants must complete The National LGBTQ+ Curriculum: Part I within ninety (90) days of purchase before access expires. To receive credit, participants must read the introductory CME material, complete all pre-training assessments, watch all video lessons in their entirety, and complete all post-training assessments.

    Disclosure Statement
Med-IQ requires any person in a position to control the content of an educational activity to disclose all financial relationships with ineligible companies within the prior 24 months. The ACCME deems financial relationships as relevant if the educational content an individual can control is related to the business lines or products of the ineligible company. Individuals who refuse to disclose are not permitted to contribute to Med-IQ activities in any way. The content of this activity has been reviewed for compliance and any relevant financial relationships have been successfully mitigated through an established COI mitigation process.

No planners, reviewers, faculty, or staff have any financial relationships to disclose.

    Drug/Product Usage by Faculty
Off-label/unapproved drug uses or products are not mentioned within this activity.

    Statement of Evidence-Based Content
As an ACCME-accredited provider of CME, Med-IQ is committed to developing activities that are consistent with the ACCME definition of continuing medical education (CME). Med-IQ is not liable for any decision made or action taken in reliance upon the information provided through this activity.
