I don’t normally leave reviews, but I’ve spent too much of my life being invisible in healthcare spaces to stay silent about someone who actually got it right.
As a transgender man, I’ve learned how to brace myself before every doctor’s appointment—ready to correct pronouns, explain things that shouldn’t need explaining, or worse, leave with more shame than I came in with. So when I was referred to Dr. Das for a complex colorectal issue, I was prepared for another exhausting round of being “othered.”
Instead, I was met with care that honored me.
Dr. Das walked into the room with confidence, not ego. He introduced himself, shook my hand, and never once made assumptions about my body or identity. He asked how I wanted to be addressed. He clarified things respectfully and never spoke over me. I honestly teared up after that first visit—because it felt like, finally, I didn’t have to shrink myself to get care.
The condition I came in with was painful, vulnerable, and required surgical intervention. Dr. Das broke it down in plain language, talked me through my options without pressure, and made sure I felt ownership over every step of the plan. He made the decision feel empowering instead of terrifying.
The surgery itself went beautifully. His technical skill is top-tier—he trained at Harvard, and it shows. But what stayed with me most was how protected I felt. He briefed his OR team, so I never had to “out” myself repeatedly. My pronouns were respected, my dignity preserved, and my outcome was excellent.
I’m healing well now, both physically and emotionally. For the first time in a long time, I feel like I can trust a provider without constantly being on guard. Dr. Das gave me that.
In a world where LGBTQ+ folks are often marginalized in medicine—where our pain is minimized, our identities erased—Dr. Das is doing the kind of care that changes lives.
This Pride Month, I want others in our community to know: if you need a surgeon who sees you, hears you, and fights for you, go see Dr. Das. He’s not just affirming—he’s exceptional.
