I have been an out member of the LGBTQ+ community since the beginning of the AIDS crisis in early 1980s. I know from my own experience how difficult it can be to navigate the US healthcare system and find compassionate care from someone who understands your struggle. I have worked for over 35 years helping people within my community learn what their choices are when it comes to healthcare and navigate through a complex maze of options.
I am a board-certified patient advocate, and I am here to help everyone, regardless of age, find healthcare that works for them. My goal is to make sure your voice is heard, and that you receive the compassionate care you need and deserve. And ultimately, help you find you your own voice to advocate for yourself.
My work as an advocate began in the early 1980s working as an A-Team counselor at Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GHMC) in New York. I continued that work as a peer counselor at the Free Health Clinic at The Center (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center) in New York’s Greenwich village. I work at Yale New Haven Hospital as a Patient Experience Liaison, making sure all newly admitted patients are receiving the care they need. And I sit on the Patient and Family Advisory Program Board (PFAP) at Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven.
When it comes to healthcare, it’s easy to feel alone and lost in our community. So whether it’s understanding your diagnosis or treatment, needing help finding a specialist, looking for a second opinion, or seeking out clinical trials, I am here to walk with you and help you find the care you and your family are looking for.
