I am a Licensed Professional Counselor–Mental Health (LPC-MH) in the State of South Dakota with a clinical focus on sex therapy, LGBTQ+ affirming care, identity development, and life transitions. I work primarily with adults and couples, including diverse relationship structures. My approach emphasizes clinical accuracy, relational safety, and respect for the lived realities of LGBTQ+ individuals navigating mental health, intimacy, and identity within broader social and cultural systems.
I hold a Master of Science in Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from St. Bonaventure University and dual undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Business Administration from Arizona State University. I am also credentialed as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP). My clinical training includes EMDR Basic Training, with ongoing application in trauma-informed work.
My clinical practice is grounded in psychodynamic and relational frameworks, with integration of evidence-informed approaches including cognitive and behavioral strategies when clinically appropriate. I place particular attention on minority stress, internalized stigma, attachment dynamics, and the impact of cultural, religious, and gender-based messaging on mental health and sexual well-being.
A significant portion of my continuing education and clinical development has focused on sex therapy and LGBTQ+ health. I have completed extensive and ongoing coursework through the Sexual Health Alliance, including sexual assessment and reassessment, sex therapy fundamentals, group sexual dynamics, kink-affirming practice, and sexual functioning across the lifespan. Additional specialized training includes LGBTQ+ identity development, WPATH Standards of Care (SOC-8) for adults, ethical considerations related to informed consent in transgender care, and clinical work with queer couples and diverse identities.
My LGBTQ+-affirming work is informed by formal education as well as sustained clinical experience. I regularly work with clients exploring sexual orientation, gender identity, relationship structures, and the psychological effects of growing up in non-affirming or religious environments. I am attentive to generational differences within LGBTQ+ communities and the cumulative impact of microaggressions, erasure, and systemic barriers to care.
I am an active member of the American Psychological Association (APA), Division 44 (Society for the Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity), and the Sexual Health Alliance. I also maintain ongoing professional development through supervision, consultation, and peer engagement specific to sex therapy and LGBTQ+ mental health.
In addition to clinical work, I have authored and presented educational trainings for clinicians and academic audiences on LGBTQ+ client care, identity development, and cultural messages related to gender and masculinity. These presentations focus on practical clinical considerations, ethical care, and the use of inclusive, spectrum-based language in mental health settings.
My goal in practice is to provide care that is clinically sound, affirming, and responsive to the real-world contexts in which LGBTQ+ clients live. I aim to offer a therapeutic environment where clients feel respected, understood, and supported without assumption or pathologization.
