Hello, I’m Thax, I identify as a queer non-binary person and use they-them pronouns. I began practicing mental health counseling in 2016 (got my master’s degree in 2018) and my focus is on serving LGBTQ+ people of many identities and backgrounds living in Southern Indiana. I can provide letters of support to those needing help accessing gender-transition related healthcare/resources (for ex. to start HRT). I am licensed as a mental health counseling associate and currently working under the supervision of Laura Alford, LMHC.
I currently offer individual therapy to adults & teens (13+) through my private practice (K.E. Thaxton Counseling) on a sliding-scale. My full fee is $85/ session. I do not accept any insurance but I can bill to health savings accounts. My office is located within the Bloomington Center for Connection. This building & my office are wheelchair accessible and there are two gender-neutral single-occupant restrooms. Parking is available, we are located next to the B-Line, and public transportation access/bus stops are nearby.
Call or email if you’d like to schedule a session or have questions. Kethaxtoncounseling@gmail.com
I have 5+ years of experience as a group facilitator including support groups for transgender people with complex trauma. I’ve also served as a facilitator for student organizations such as IUB Connections and Gender Warriors and community groups such as Queer Talk. I am currently a weekly adult volunteer/leader for Prism Youth Community (a safe community space for LGBTQ+/ally teens age 12-20). I offer consultations, and “ally trainings”, to workplaces/university-affiliated groups/etc. advocating to improve their structural and interpersonal practices to better serve LGBTQ+ (particularly transgender) people. My research interests include healing complex trauma, anti-oppressive practices, and the impacts of abuse/dehumanization on bodies/minds/relationships.
