Kathryn Thompson is an EMDRIA Certified therapist who specializes in the treatment of Complex Trauma and Dissociation. She primarily treats individuals, but also works with couples and families since trauma can impact an individual’s primary relationships. Kathryn also treats Mood Disorders such as Depression and Anxiety that have not responded to usual treatment. She has a special interest in Religious Trauma.
Kathryn’s first priority in therapy is safety, which must start in the therapy room and in herself as the therapist. Kathryn recognizes that she operates from a place of immense privilege as a White, Cishet, middle class woman, and is always working to acknowledge this privilege as she works with clients. She enthusiastically affirms LGBTQIA+ clients, and believes that her work must be intersectional in order to be effective. Kathryn actively seeks opportunities to educate herself about the unique needs of marginalized and vulnerable populations, and to advocate for oppressed individuals in and out of the therapy room. She recognizes this work as a lifelong process.
Kathryn most often utilizes EMDR, DBT, Internal Family Systems, and Hypnosis. Kathryn works with clients on initial stability through skills for healthy boundaries, emotion tolerance and regulation, and self-compassion. After clients reach an initial baseline of stability, Kathryn works with them to process through underlying traumas at an individualized pace that is safest for them.
As a holistic thinker, Kathryn often refers clients to other professionals who become an important part of a client’s healthcare team. Trauma leaves a lasting imprint that affects the whole body, and it is important to address healing of the whole person. Kathryn networks with doctors, nutritionists, physical therapists, yoga instructors, spiritual leaders, and other experts in their field to provide each client with comprehensive care.
Kathryn rarely has immediate openings for new clients. She accepts direct referrals from local therapists and doctors, and is often able to see these referrals within 2-3 months. Clients who are interested in seeing Kathryn can inquire through Andrews and Associates Counseling or speak to their healthcare providers about a referral.
