I enjoy working with people that have a different identity than myself. This includes gender, sexual orientation, religion, race, etc. The counseling process isn’t about me, and I appreciate the uniqueness of the person I work with. I have completed additional training on gender dysphoria, worked with many clients that need gender affirming care or sexuality that is outside heterosexual norms, and continued my own education on how to help and support members of LGBT+. I’ve had friends that were gay or bisexual since I was a child, and I was there for them as they were coming out. While this doesn’t make me an expert, I’ve gained insight into the realities of being considered different in a highly religious area: age 12-24 in the South and now in a different religious and conservative state, Idaho. I help clients discover what works for them if they are struggling with their beliefs, spirituality, or religious trauma.
I offer a balanced perspective in mental wellness for individuals, couples, and families. With over 20 years of experience in Idaho’s mental health field in a wide range of settings (residential treatment, community mental health, alternative school, public school, outpatient substance abuse treatment), I have worked clients of all ages using Adlerian talk therapy, art therapy, play therapy, and bibliotherapy (books and other written materials). This has provided me with the experience in effectively assisting you in resolving a broad range of challenges.
You are the expert on your life, and I can guide you through the process of counseling to meet your goals. This collaborative process is created according to your needs and will be modified as your needs change. Whether you have past counseling experiences or have no idea what to expect, our plan will focus on what will help you.
