I’m a queer woman providing non-clinical grief counseling and deathcare services on the Oregon Coast. In my grief counseling, I focus on two paths with clients: dealing with the feelings that come with loss (positive, negative, and everything in-between) and attending to any life changes that can help you adjust to that loss. My practice is inclusive, trauma informed and strengths-based.
After spending over a decade as a sexual health and relationships educator for Scarleteen (a queer owned and operated resource), I made the choice to switch my focus to death and grief.
Was that a bit of a sharp turn, career-wise? Yes, and no. Sex and death/grief are certainly very different experiences. But both are topics that many of us struggle to talk about, and where being open-minded, non-judgemental, and hard to shock are all useful skills in educating and assisting people with them. My day to day work was mainly direct service, meaning I spent it talking people through a variety of sensitive, stressful, or vulnerable situations. Think of it this way: I’ve stood in front of a room full of teenagers while talking about tampons and penises without breaking a sweat. Whatever you need to talk with me about as your death doula or grief counselor, I can handle it.
As my previous career focused on teens and young adults, if you’re looking for grief counseling for a young person in your life (or you ARE a young person), I think we may be an especially good match. The same goes if you’re a member of the LGBTQIA+ community; it’s a community I’m a part of and that it’s incredibly important to me to be a resource for.
My grief counseling is not only for those experiencing loss due to death. I also work with clients dealing with the loss of a relationship or role that was significant to them.
My grief counseling services are available to anyone in Oregon, and in-person death doula services are available in Tillamook County and surrounding reasons. However! I DO offer remote death doula services to queer and trans Oregonians, regardless of where in the state they are. Those services can include legacy planning, deathbed ecosystem planning and preparation, and coordinating community support. Over a decade of doing queer sex ed (and being queer myself) means it’s important to me to have some of my services focused specifically on our community.
I’m certified as a grief counselor by the American Institute of Healthcare Professionals, and as a death doula through NEDA. If my services sound like what you’re looking for, I hope you reach out!
