I am a genderqueer/gender non comforming eye care provider who has had personal and professional experience working with the LGBTQ+ population. I worked in the optometry department at Fenway Health Community Health Center, a non-for-profit community health center headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts with a focus on providing LGBTQ health care, research, and advocacy.
Dr. Ah-Kiné really took their time with both me and my partner, explaining everything along the way and really getting a picture of where each of our eye problems were coming from. (Their website tells you to bring props, and it really does help. You can try your prescription with your knitting, your laptop, etc before you leave the office.) The glasses options also had way more flare than your average optical shop in terms of both frame styles and tech. Awesome experience from start to finish.
Truly an incredible experience. They explained everything really well and were very affirming during the exam. I felt listened to and learned a ton. I’m very happy to see this doctor again.
