Hello! I’m Kristin Gutierrez (she/her), a Queer Latina Licensed Professional Counselor Associate under the supervision of Portia Gordon (#86646) providing virtual therapy for adults throughout Texas.
I founded Comunidad Counseling because I believe healing happens in connection—with ourselves, our communities, and the people who make us feel safe enough to be fully seen. My practice is built on a simple belief: you shouldn’t have to leave parts of yourself at the door to receive quality mental health care.
As a queer Latina therapist, I understand that our mental health doesn’t exist separately from our identities. Our culture, family, race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, neurodivergence, spirituality, socioeconomic experiences, and the systems we navigate all influence how we move through the world. Therapy should honor those experiences—not ignore them.
I provide trauma-informed, culturally grounded, and LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy for adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, intergenerational trauma, ADHD, neurodivergence, burnout, identity concerns, relationship challenges, caregiver stress, and major life transitions. My work is especially centered on supporting BIPOC adults, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and neurodivergent clients, while welcoming anyone looking for compassionate, culturally responsive mental health care.
My therapeutic approach is person-centered, strengths-based, and grounded in liberation psychology. Rather than asking, “What’s wrong with you?” I ask, “What happened to you, what helped you survive, and what do you need now?”
I believe people make sense within the context of their lives. Many struggles that appear to be individual problems are deeply connected to relationships, family systems, generational experiences, discrimination, chronic stress, or environments that have asked people to survive for far too long.
While I integrate evidence-based approaches—including cognitive reframing, mindfulness, emotional regulation skills, and psychoeducation when they fit your goals—I don’t believe therapy should be about forcing positivity or pretending systemic barriers don’t exist. Healing comes from understanding your story, recognizing your strengths, challenging the narratives that no longer serve you, and building a life that feels authentic and sustainable.
Many of my clients have spent years believing they were “too much,” “not enough,” or responsible for everyone else’s needs before their own. Therapy becomes a place where they can finally stop performing and begin reconnecting with themselves.
I don’t believe people need to leave parts of themselves at the door to receive quality mental health care. Your culture, your identity, your spirituality, your relationships, and your lived experiences all belong in the therapy room.
Whether you’re seeking support for trauma, anxiety, depression, burnout, ADHD, identity exploration, relationship concerns, or a major life transition, my hope is to provide a space where you feel genuinely seen, respected, and empowered.
Healing isn’t about becoming someone new.
It’s about coming home to yourself.
I proudly provide LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy for people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions, including transgender, nonbinary, gender-diverse, and questioning individuals.
As a queer Latina therapist, I understand that affirming care goes far beyond using the correct pronouns. It means recognizing the impact of minority stress, discrimination, family rejection, religious trauma, systemic inequities, and intersecting identities while honoring each person’s unique lived experience.
Whether you’re exploring your identity, navigating coming out, seeking gender-affirming support, healing from trauma, building healthier relationships, or simply looking for a therapist who understands the importance of culturally responsive and affirming care, you are welcome here.
My goal is to create a therapeutic relationship where you don’t have to educate your therapist, minimize parts of yourself, or wonder whether you’ll be accepted. You deserve care that sees you as a whole person.
At Comunidad Counseling, I believe healing is deeply personal—but it was never meant to happen alone.
