Sara is a therapist who takes a relationally-focused and trauma-informed approach to supporting people as they navigate life’s challenges, heal, grow, and flourish. She has supported individuals and families navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship challenges, and major life transitions (e.g., job changes, career pivots, geographic moves, adoption, marriage, divorce, empty nest, menopause, etc.).
Sara brings a unique perspective to her clinical work, shaped by her experience as a white woman and adoptee, her relationships within a Cape Verdean family, and more than 20 years of leadership experience across the culinary, creative, technology, and fashion industries. Having lived and worked in communities across the United States, Europe, and Cabo Verde, she appreciates how our relationships, cultural contexts, family expectations, and lived experiences shape our identities and influence how we understand ourselves and others.
Sara’s approach centers on building a genuine therapeutic relationship rooted in compassion, empathy, curiosity, and deep listening. She believes meaningful change begins when we feel seen and understood and have the opportunity to explore our experiences without judgment. Through therapy, she helps clients recognize patterns that may no longer serve them, develop a deeper understanding of themselves, and build more fulfilling relationships with themselves and others.
Sara is passionate about working with BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals, as well as students, young adults, adults, and older adults navigating questions of identity, self-esteem, belonging, and connection. She approaches this work with cultural humility and a commitment to understanding each person’s experiences within their unique relational and social context.
At Prism Therapy, Sara aims to create a warm, welcoming, and affirming environment where clients can explore the parts of themselves that may feel difficult to share elsewhere. She views therapy not as a process of fixing who we are, but as an opportunity to gain greater clarity, understand ourselves more fully, and make intentional choices about the lives and relationships we want to cultivate.
