Learning Objectives
Upon completion, participants should be able to:
- Appreciate and define the differences between sexual orientation and gender identity.
- Practice ways to effectively communicate about sexual orientation and gender identity in affirming ways.
- Summarize the size of LGBTQ+ communities, discrimination, and disparities.
- Utilize interventions and resources for LGBTQ+ healthcare.

This activity is intended for all learners.
Statement of Need
Past research has shown a significant lack of national recognition and attention in LGBTQ+ education for learners. For example, many people have never received any LGBTQ+ education, and for those who have received some training, it is typically minimal (i.e., less than 1 hour per year). Concurrently, many people harbor implicit and explicit biases about LGBTQ+ people and do not feel well informed on LGBTQ+ equity (see outcarehealth.org/research for more information regarding these significant concerns).
Medium/Method of Participation
The activity consists of an on-demand video course with assessments. Participants may complete The LGBTQ+ 101 Training all at once or in increments. The total time of completion is approximately 1 hour. Progress is saved as you proceed through the training, so you can jump back in at any time. Of note, participants must complete The LGBTQ+ 101 Training within thirty (30) days of enrollment before access expires.
