I am Asma Rehman, the founder and director of the Grief Recovery Center. People often ask me, “How do you manage everything in your practice?” My response is simple: “When you love what you do, work doesn’t feel like work.” This statement truly resonates with me because I am deeply passionate about my career.
For a long time, I had considered the idea of working in a private practice setting. In 2015, I finally took a leap of faith and started my own small practice. At that time, I was still working full-time at a psychiatric hospital, so I began seeing private practice clients after hours. As the number of inquiries for my services grew, I decided to expand to a group practice in order to serve more clients in the community. What initially started as a small idea quickly blossomed into what the Grief Recovery Center is today – a team of administrative support and over 20 therapists.
Having experienced a painful and life-altering loss of my own, I have a special connection with those who are grieving. I understand the never-ending roller-coaster of emotions that grievers go through. There were days when I couldn’t bring myself to leave my bed, and other days when I forced myself to smile and laugh just to give the impression that I was “okay.” But deep down, I was heartbroken and lost. That’s when I discovered The Grief Recovery Institute® and learned about the Grief Recovery Program®. I went through the program myself and realized that it was exactly what I needed to heal. This experience ignited a passion within me to help other grievers.
My vision for the Grief Recovery Center is to create a safe haven for grievers, regardless of the type of loss they have experienced. It is a place where they can come and express themselves without fear of judgment. As the founder, it is important to me that the Grief Recovery Center offers support for all forms of grief, not just the loss of a loved one. This includes losses such as relationships, friendships, pets, pregnancies, trust, faith, and any other events that fall under the umbrella of grief and loss. Grief is an inevitable part of life that affects all of us at some point.
In addition to grief and loss, the Grief Recovery Center is also open to helping clients with other clinical concerns. Our ultimate goal is to assist as many clients as possible. We aim to continue growing, providing high-quality therapy to our clients, and ensuring that they always have a safe space where they can seek help.
