My guiding principle as a therapist is deep listening without judgment (acknowledgement plus acceptance) so that people can feel the freedom to express themselves, explore their experiences and create authentic connection. I believe that listening is an essential tool in healing and feeling valued. My approach is trauma-informed and client-centered, with an anti-oppression lens. I am committed to the lifelong unlearning of colonial structures that are deeply rooted in mental health, and to holding space for others to unpack how societal and institutional structures have impacted their mental health and wellness.
My identity as a queer South Asian non-binary person has influenced my life tremendously; it informs my approach to psychotherapy and is foundational to my desire to create inclusive and safe spaces for others. Alongside my identities, my work as a personal storytelling performance artist and group facilitator for the past 13 years has given me a valuable perspective of how trauma impacts individuals, families and groups and intersect with gender identity, race, culture, religion, sexuality, and disability.
The therapeutic space I create is influenced by social work, advocacy, internal family systems therapy and narrative therapy models. At the core of each of these is a dedication to centering people as the expert in their own life and honoring individual self-determination. I believe that when you start therapy, you are forming a relationship with someone new. That makes us co-creators and equal partners in creating the therapeutic space. Together, we will navigate the richness of your life and employ a variety of modalities, from storytelling and somatic/mindfulness practices to re-parenting your inner child and expanding your care support network, to build a place of safety and strength for you.
