I am a board-certified art therapist and counselor who specializes in working with neurodivergent people. The intersection between neurodivergence and LGBTQ+ is well proven, and individuals with these identities face challenges when it comes to creating a life that works for them. From the beginning of my training, it was important to me to learn and implement approaches that affirm and empower marginalized identities. As a result, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) has become the overarching framework for healing in my practice. The focus of ACT is to assist people with identifying and strengthening their connection to their personal values, and empower them to live accordingly in the midst of pain and uncertainty. The art therapy works within this to build flexibility (for example letting go of binaries), expand communication, and improve self-knowledge. Lastly, I am also able to support people who have experienced religious trauma, particularly in connection to their LGBTQ+ identity. For many people, the relationship between religion, sexuality, and health is complex and fraught with uncertainty. In the therapy room, people find a safe place to ask big questions, acknowledge feelings of shame and fear, and clarify their own relationship to religious and spiritual beliefs.
