LGBTQ Competency
Rural Appalachia has a lack of providers who are culturally and professionally competent in providing optimal health care for the LGBTQ population. As an OBGYN who happens to be openly gay, I have provided care for years for a significant number of LGBTQ patients from around West Virginia. I also serve on clinical faculty of two medical schools and have participated on numerous LGBTQ health care panels and other educational events for students and the surrounding community.
