Kia is a social worker specializing in working collaboratively with adults to address trauma and major life changes. Kia believes in a holistic therapy approach that explores the connection between mind, body, and spirit. She often uses mindfulness, Existential Therapy and Strengths-based Therapy approaches to address a range of issues including trauma, anxiety, stress, and depression. Clients who work with her can expect to take a deeper look into who they are and their values, and to learn meditation and other relaxation skills to add to their self-care plan. We’ll define healing based on your needs, goals, and experiences.
Kia’s work in LGBTQ advocacy includes facilitating the DC Center for the LGBTQ Community’s People of Color Support Group, attending the Philadelphia Trans Wellness Conference professional track and being a member of the Queer and Trans Therapists of Color Network. She uses a number of approaches in her clinical work, including affirmative therapy to validate and advocate for the needs of sexual and gender minority clients. She has signed the Gender Affirming Letter Access Project (GALAP) Pledge and does not charge for gender-affirming care letters.
Kia has over ten years practice as a medical social worker, therapist and community health advocate. She completed her Master of Social Work at Howard University and earned a Nonprofit Leadership and Management Graduate Certificate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has spent her free time cultivating her passion for health and wellness by completing the Health Ministry Certificate Program at Wesley Theological Seminary and the National Credentialed Advocate Program through the National Organization for Victim Assistance. She moved to North Carolina in 2019 and started her private practice Healing Journey Therapy & Consulting, PLLC.
