In college I participated in a full day program that the university called “Ally Training”. As a part of this program, I gained insight into the disparities faced by the LGBTQ community, and learned what the community needed the most from lay people so that I could be the best ally.
In medical school, I completed the LGBT Health and Wellness Certificate Series and received a certificate in recognition of my completion of the competencies.
Also, during medical school, part of our curriculum was dedicated to learning about treating patients that identified as LGBTQ and how best to provide medical services, and set up an outpatient clinic/office so to be the most welcoming and accommodating.
During residency, I have treated patients that identify as LGBTQ and continue to create a clinical environment that is a safe place and welcoming.
