Equip is a pioneering virtual eating disorder treatment program that empowers patients to access evidence-based care from their own homes. Built by clinical experts and people with lived experience, Equip treatment is designed to help people achieve sustainable, lifelong recovery.
We treat patients of all ages in all 50 states with all types of eating disorders, as well as those without a formal diagnosis. We also treat co-occurring conditions like anxiety, depression, and OCD. We are in-network with most private insurance plans and a growing number of Medicaid plans.
Each Equip patient has access to a dedicated multidisciplinary care team that can include a registered dietitian, licensed therapist, medical provider, and mentors who have navigated the road to recovery themselves. Providers pull from the leading evidence-based treatment modalities—like enhanced cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT-E) and others—to create adaptable, personalized treatment plans for each patient. We offer two LGBTQIA+ support groups, one for youth and one for adults, as well as two transgender and gender nonconforming (TGNC) support groups, one for patients and one for caregivers of TGNC patients.
Nearly half of our clinicians and mentors identify as LGBTQIA+, and all our providers are trained in providing nuanced and sensitive care specific to this population. All Equip providers complete training on gender-affirming care, and we’re proud to be rolling out Gender Responsive & Affirming Care at Equip (GRACE), a detailed protocol that will serve as our guiding philosophy toward gender-affirming care.
We acknowledge that there is a long way to go before LGBTQIA+ populations have the same access to proper eating disorder diagnoses and evidence-based treatment as their cisgender, heterosexual counterparts. On our part, we’re committed to providing treatment that addresses these challenges with sensitivity and competence, while we work toward raising awareness and making effective eating disorder treatment available to every LGBTQIA+ person who needs it.
