Gregory Sayer MD, DFAACAP is board certified in adult psychiatry and child/adolescent psychiatry. He completed medical school and residency at UCLA and child/adolescent psychiatry fellowship at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Columbia and Cornell. He started his private practice in New York while working at NYU Langone where he was on faculty as a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry. Since relocating and opening a California practice, as well, he has been a Voluntary Clinical Faculty member at UCLA. In this work he supervises adult psychiatry residents and child and adolescent psychiatry fellows with their long term psychotherapy cases. Dr. Sayer offers in-person visits in Los Angeles (Beverly Hills), California and virtual treatment across CA and NY.
Dr. Sayer’s work takes into account that mental health issues come in many shapes and sizes and can be a moving target over one’s lifespan. Having worked with children, teens, adults, and families, he has learned how to approach the interplay between biological vulnerabilities, early childhood/attachment experiences, and current day environmental factors when working with patient. Dr. Sayer works with and supports the LGBTQ+ community both in and outside of his practice.
He provides medication management and various types of evidence-based psychotherapy.
Dr. Sayer is experienced in cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, motivational enhancement, family therapy, and parent management training. He has special training in cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, panic, tic disorders, post traumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and obsessive compulsive disorder. He has published in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry on ADHD medications. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) and served on the Program Committee and Special Interests Group Chair for the organization from 2015-2023, which is the leading professional medical association for child and adolescent psychiatry.
