I am a lesbian-identified Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Iowa Health Care. I completed my medical training at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and my residency training at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. I am a long-time member of GLMA and WPATH and my clinical practice is focused entirely on caring for queer people of all ages. As a primary care provider, I provide chronic disease management (including mental health care), wellness and preventive care, screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (including PrEP), and gender-affirming hormone management.
I am the co-founded and co-Director of the University of Iowa Health Care LGBTQ+ Clinic, which has been providing primary and specialty care to queer identified patients and their families since 2012. The University of Iowa Health Care has been recognized as a Health Equality Index (HEI) leader by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) since 2013. Our team of providers and clinical staff provides multiple services for transgender and gender diverse people including hormone management, mental health care (including letters of support when needed), puberty blockers, fertility preservation, male chest reconstruction, orchiectomy, vaginoplasty, vulvoplasty, speech therapy services, hair removal, and facial feminization procedures.
I have co-authored book chapters and research articles on LGBTQ+ health. I routinely lecture to medical students, physicians in training, and practicing clinicians on topics around LGBTQ+ health.
