My learning started at CU Denver in their master’s level counseling program. Each of my classes had a special focus on cultural competence, and we often discussed and learned about how marginalized communities such as BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ were impacted by systemic oppression. I continued my learning in my internship by seeing couples and individuals from the LGBTQIA+ community and providing a safe and non-judgmental space for them to process their experiences. From there, I chose to specialize in religious trauma and recognize the significance of the intersection between religious trauma and queer identities. I have found joy in working with couples interested in non-monogamy, and often these clients have identities within the queer community. I am currently trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy to inform my work with couples and Eye Movement Reprocessing and Desensitization (EMDR) to inform my work with clients who have experienced trauma.
