Hi, I’m KP Hartman (they/them). I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC), and EMDR-trained therapist. As a non-binary provider, I understand firsthand the importance of finding healthcare spaces where you do not have to translate your identity or justify your existence before you can begin healing. My perspective is deeply rooted in the belief that true healing requires engaging the whole person. For many of us, the body can historically be a site of trauma, minority stress, or dysphoria. At my practice, Breath & Bone, I provide a fiercely affirming, trauma-informed space where we work to safely reconnect you with your physical self and honor the wisdom your body already possesses.
Whether we are working through addiction recovery, finding ways to regulate daily stress, or processing difficult experiences, we do it collaboratively. We move strictly at a pace your nervous system can handle, ensuring our work feels grounded, safe, and entirely on your terms. We’re here to create healing your body can trust.
I hold a Master’s degree in International Disaster Psychology: Trauma & Global Mental Health from the University of Denver. This specialized training equipped me to view trauma not just as an individual experience, but through a systemic and global lens. My clinical background includes extensive work in high-acuity mental health crisis intervention, where I managed complex situations involving suicidality, homicidality, and psychosis. While my outpatient practice focuses on ongoing, non-acute therapeutic work, this deep crisis background allows me to bring a calm, steady, and unshakable presence to our sessions. No matter how overwhelming your experience feels, I am equipped to sit in the dark with you.
Beyond individual therapy, I am deeply invested in expanding how we approach mental health and bodily autonomy. I am currently contracted with a community mental health agency to develop an innovative, experiential group therapy program that brings dynamic, community-based healing models to life. Additionally, I write a newsletter called Hard Truths, Soft Bodies, which explores the intersection of trauma recovery, physical movement, and what clinical evidence actually says about healing. I am dedicated to bridging the gap between mental health and physical well-being, actively advocating for holistic, evidence-based care that centers marginalized voices and bodies.
My Invitation to You
Starting therapy—especially when you are carrying the heavy weight of trauma or addiction—takes immense courage. In our first session, my goal is to offer a low-pressure, welcoming space where we can begin getting to know each other. I do not expect you to trust me right off the bat; trust is earned. If you are ready to explore a path to wholeness and find healing that your body can actually hold, I warmly invite you to reach out.
