About

Dr. Melman is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at RWJ Medical school, and in addition to being one of the most experienced female bariatric surgeons in the Northeast, is the Director of the Hernia Program at Advanced Surgical & Bariatrics. Dr. Melman has been performing advanced minimally invasive surgeries in practice since 2014, including surgery for weight loss, acid reflux, and hernias of all types. She has achieved the designation of Surgeon of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery, as well as Surgeon of Excellence in Robotic Surgery, and Surgeon of Excellence in Hernia Surgery from the Surgical Review Corporation.

Career

Dr. Melman has worked together with Dr. Sadek to create the Hernia Center of New Jersey, and to employ New Jersey’s premier Fast-Track Surgery program for patients undergoing weight loss surgery, anti-reflux surgery, and Hernia surgery. Multimodal postoperative pain management reduces surgical recovery time and hastens return to normal activity. It also reduces the amount of narcotic pain medications that patients require, often to the point where patients take no narcotics at all after surgery.

Education

Dr. Melman has also conducted extensive research in the area of biomaterials (hernia meshes) for all types of abdominal wall and diaphragmatic hernias. She is a nationally-recognized expert in this area. Her expertise in the proper selection and use of biomaterials and ongoing commitment to excellence provides patients with a tailored approach to a durable, definitive hernia repair. The techniques she uses are directly learned from world-renowned Hernia experts and benefit the full range of patients from those seeking a first-time repair to those with complex hernias requiring Abdominal Wall Reconstruction.
