I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (5208) and a Nationally Certified Counselor with an MA in Counseling. I currently have 32 years of experience. I have dedicated my life to supporting and helping the LGBTQ+ community with relationship issues, everyday issues, gender identity concerns, depression, anxiety, and others. I have been with my wife for 34 years (legally married 11 years). My wife and I have a 24-year-old son. I am informal when it comes to my counseling style, and of course, everything is client-centered.
I am not a medical doctor and cannot write prescriptions for medication. I do write recommendation letters for hormone treatment if that is your goal and is appropriate for your situation. I also write letters for gender related surgeries such as mastectomy, hysterectomy, chest augmentation, FFS, orchiectomy, GRS/GCS, and other related surgeries. Most insurances have strict requirements, including the need for two letters from different therapists which I can provide one of.
There is no certain number of sessions you may need or want. Therapy is a process and should not be viewed as a number of sessions to check off. The new WPATH standards prevent specifying the number of sessions needed. Everyone’s experience is different, and everyone is different. I consider the whole person, not just one part. This is very important, and the biggest life-changing event you will ever have that is irreversible and includes many health risks, emotional changes, and life changes. The general mental health and readiness assessment indicates that the average number of sessions is between 3 to 5. Of course, this is not a guarantee.
