I believe that working with a therapist should be an experience that not only assists individuals in regaining control of their lives but also empowers them to be the person that they want to be. I strive to create caring, therapeutic relationships where new strategies can be learned, difficult issues can be addressed, distress can be reduced, and self-worth can grow and flourish. Having many family members and friends in the LGBTQ+ community has helped me grow as a friend and individual. I have seen first-hand some of the struggles and mental health challenges the community and its individuals face and strive to be a positive agent of change in the world.
I employ both Cognitive Behavioral, EMDR, and Reality Therapy approaches with individuals of all ages to challenge irrational thoughts and reduce negative behavior. I’m also a Registered Play Therapist. Play is a child’s natural language, and Play Therapists use specialized techniques to allow children to express themselves through their play. I have many years of experience working with LGBTQ+ teens and young adults.
I have worked previously in an inpatient psychiatric hospital, outpatient mental health practice, and extensively with military families. This background has provided me with a great deal of personal experience that I employ to help clients achieve real, positive change in their lives.
