Dr. Toby Fugate attended medical school at The University of Health Sciences in Kansas City, Missouri from 1998 until 2002. He later completed an Internal Medicine Residency at East Tennessee State University in 2005 and an Infectious Disease Fellowship at Wake Forest University in 2007. He went into private practice in Charleston, South Carolina from 2007 until 2014. During that time, he was the Medical Director of the Roper St. Francis Ryan White Wellness Center. In 2014, he moved to New Orleans where he worked as a staff physician at CrescentCare Health. While in New Orleans, he became certified in high resolution anoscopy and treatment of precancerous anal lesions through the University of California, San Francisco. During that time, he was a Principal Investigator in The ANCHOR Study, which aims to prove that the treatment of precancerous anal lesions prevents anal cancer in people living with HIV. In 2019, he returned to Charleston, South Carolina and resumed his role as Medical Director of the Roper St. Francis Ryan White Wellness Center.
