My practice is rooted in holistic nursing. It predominantly focuses on psychotherapy and ketamine-assisted-psychotherapy. I also provide psychotropic medication management, but have only limited availability for people who are looking only for medication management.
Most people develop some kind of self-loathing and feel disappointed in themselves. This is typically based on messages we receive growing up. Somehow, we are never good enough, we don’t measure up in intelligence, beauty, goodness and accomplishments. Rejections from parents, lovers, and friends over the years can cause us to lose self-esteem, confidence, and trust in self. If we had traumatic experiences, we learned to shut down more and feel disconnected from life. Especially when bad things happened when we were still children, we diminished ourselves and constricted parts of ourselves that were not met with safety and acceptance. There is an intelligence that helped us to survive and to get to the present moment. However, now you are in a time in your life that you can seek support to take a new look. Habits and coping that helped you in the past may no longer work, and they inhibit you from finding your true potential and joy.
I am particularly experienced in treating trauma-related symptoms including severe dissociation, anxiety disorders, mood disorders and attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). I am licensed to treat adolescents and adults, and currently take clients age 18 years and older.
I am a white cis-gendered Woman and especially welcome members of the LGBTQIA community and all other minority groups. I make a continuing effort to learn about their specific needs and treatment issues. I have a deep interest in learning from different cultures and wisdom traditions.
Dr. Socolar was a tremendous help to me. I had to find a new provider because my insurance changed but I would highly recommend her to anyone in the queer community.
One of the first questions she asked me when we met were: “What are your preffered pronouns, and preferred name?”. She’s extremely inclusive of the LGBTQIA+ community and a great Ally. I never felt out of place or judged for being transgender.
She’s also very knowledgeable and aware of HRT (hormone replacement therapy) and how it can affect mental health.
I will be sad not to see her anymore but I would recommend her to anyone.
