Hi! I’m Jen Jordan, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Maine, Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in Massachusetts, and owner of Light Within Therapy & Coaching. I offer individual online therapy for adults in both states, grounded in curiosity, compassion, and the belief that everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and valued.
As a lesbian, wife, and mom, my experiences have shaped how I understand identity, relationships, family, and belonging. I believe deeply that love makes a family, and that there isn’t one right way to build a meaningful life. I’ve also learned that family can be complicated. The people we expect to make us feel most loved and accepted don’t always know how to do that, and sometimes finding or creating a sense of belonging takes more work than it ever should. I know how meaningful it can be to find spaces where you don’t have to explain or defend the people you love or the life you’ve built. My experiences inform my perspective, but I approach your story with curiosity rather than assumptions.
My practice welcomes LGBTQ+ adults, including people exploring their sexual orientation or gender identity, and is affirming of diverse relationships and family structures, including polyamory, ethical non-monogamy, and kink. I recognize that identity, culture, relationships, and social systems intersect in important ways, and I never assume your LGBTQ+ identity is the reason you’re seeking therapy.
I work with anxiety, depression, ADHD and executive functioning challenges, trauma, shame, self-worth, boundaries, and relationship patterns. My approach is trauma-informed, strengths-based, and attachment-oriented. I tend to ask, “What happened to you?” rather than “What’s wrong with you?” Our coping strategies developed for reasons, and understanding those reasons can open the door to meaningful change without shame.
I earned my Master of Social Work from the University of Maine in 2016 and have worked across home-based, school-based, and clinical settings. My ongoing education includes trainings through OUTMaine focused on supporting LGBTQ+ youth, culturally competent care around BDSM and kink, intensive couples therapy training, and clinical ethics and boundaries.
I’m warm, direct, collaborative, and a believer in the usefulness of humor. There’s no award for the person who has suffered the most. You don’t need to prove that your experiences are “bad enough” to deserve support.
I offer private-pay telehealth therapy in Maine and Massachusetts at $120 per session, with limited sliding-scale availability and a free 15-minute consultation.
