I am a self-identifying gay male who is honored to serve the LGBTQ+ community for over 30 years. I have been advocating for our community since the 1980s when I started with Act Up of New York to help our community when we were devastated by HIV. I have continued to advocate for the community in the 90s in Tampa and Sarasota Florida for marriage equality, and I continue to be a part of the Orlando advocacy community by participating in events with Equality Florida that centers around banning conversion therapy, addressing counter-culture nomenclature, and uplifting individual’s personal identity.
The following are examples of my qualifications and achievements:
• Extensive experience in LGBTQ+ group facilitation for people who struggle with addiction
• Comprehensive knowledge and administration of assessments, treatment, referral, and education of issues that impact the LGBTQ+ community
• Frequent commendations by peers and professionals for providing a non-judgmental and empathetic understanding of individuals struggling with HIV, discrimination, and bullying
• Recognition and honors for commitment, performance, leadership, and LGBTQ advocacy
Peers and clients have shared that I have effective creativity and exceptional organizational skills that help clients explore their inner thoughts, emotions and dialogues in a structured environment. In addition, with my history of accomplishments impacting the LGBTQ community, twelve-step communities, and those who are affected by HIV, I have directly impacted those who have suffered from mental health issues in a positive fashion since becoming a Registered Mental Health Counselor and National Certified Counselor.
