Hello! My name is Andy, and I’m a genetic counselor with a passion for utilizing telehealth to improve access to genetics healthcare and wellness. I identify as a neurodiverse individual and use he/they pronouns. In my master’s thesis, I focused on alternative methods of obtaining a family history and explored the potential of telehealth in genetic counseling to improve access to marginalized communities.
My dedication to breaking barriers in genetic counseling services led me to launch Clover Genetics. Through this initiative, I aim to provide inclusive and accessible genetic counseling services to individuals and families.
My personal experience with the psychosocial aspects involved in educating patients and families about genetic diseases is what initially drew me to the field of genetic counseling. I strongly believe in empowering patients to take an active role in their own wellness journey, and I strive to create a supportive environment for them.
Over the years, I have gained clinical experience in various areas of genetics specialties, including family planning, pediatrics, oncology, and rare disorders. I have worked in both academic hospital settings and private practice environments, allowing me to gain a comprehensive understanding of the field and provide diverse perspectives.
I am an active member of the local Pittsburgh Genetics community and hold a faculty appointment as a supervisor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health. In this role, I mentor students and deliver lectures to interested groups, sharing my knowledge and expertise. Additionally, I have been published in scientific journals and contributed to book chapters, further contributing to the field of genetics.
Outside of work, I enjoy engaging in activities such as rollerblading, spending time in nature, gardening, and embracing the outdoors.
By providing LGBTQ+-inclusive genetic counseling services, I strive to support patient reassurance, care, and equity. I am committed to creating an inclusive and safe space for individuals of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
