Brett Welch is a queer clinician-scientist who specializes in the psychological aspects of voice and communication. Clinically, he specializes in providing gender-affirming voice and communication training and working with so-called “functional” voice and breathing disorders. These clinical areas of work directly inform his line of research. As a Ph.D. candidate, Brett leverages contemporary theories and advanced analytic frameworks in quantitative psychology to interrogate the psychological aspects underlying voice and communication. Brett regularly presents his clinical and research findings at local, state, and national conferences. By disseminating these findings, he hopes to advance the field of speech-language pathology, train current and future voice clinicians, as well as to educate other relevant fields to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration, which will lead to better psychosocial health outcomes for the people we serve.
