For the last nine years I have been helping clients from a variety of backgrounds to move in the direction of making a meaningful, fulfilling life. I have extensive experience working with folks struggling with disordered eating and body image distress, obsessive compulsive tendencies, anxiety, depression, trauma, and challenges related to gender and sexuality. I have worked in a variety of mental health settings, including community mental health, inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, outpatient and even schools. I have worked with clients as young as 3 and as mature as 95, however tend to prefer working with clients age 14+.
As a late bloomer, who is currently still grappling with how coming out later in life changes your perception of your identity, I am strongly committed to providing a safe, non-judgemental, and affirming space for all folks in the LGTBQIA+ community. I work with clients who are gender questioning, transgender, nonbinary, gender non-conforming, gender fluid and more. Additionally, I provide letters for clients seeking gender affirming care and am dedicated to working with all members of the LGBTQ+ community who are seeking a safe environment for counseling.
My approach to therapy centers around the belief that I am a consultant in your life rather than the expert. I believe that therapy is a collaborative, dynamic relationship wherein you are the expert of your experience and I am a support to guide deeper understanding into what is and isn’t working in your journey. I utilize evidence based, mindfulness, and holistic approaches to working with clients, and believe in tailoring services based on each client’s unique goals and needs.
While I draw from various theoretical orientations (all with different acronyms including ACT, CBT, DBT, and EFT), what matters more is understanding what those different modalities can do for you. Therapy can be a space for skill building, increasing tolerance for uncomfortable emotions or discomfort in general, or practicing communication skills to navigate conflict. This space can also be used to explore values and how your life is lining up with those values, or missing the mark. We can use counseling to address unhelpful thought patterns and critically examine where those thoughts are and aren’t serving you. Finally, therapy can be a safe haven to process past experiences that have caused harm, address relationships that are in crisis, and find a way to reconcile loss.
