I am a licensed psychologist in Kentucky. I see adults virtually through telehealth from anywhere in Kentucky. My clients often share concerns around past trauma, negative relationship experiences, current relationship concerns, identity development, and anxiety. I work with adults who have spent their lives worrying about and taking care of others before thinking of their own needs. They are trying to relearn how to express their needs, passions, beliefs, and emotions without overly worrying about how they will impact other people. My clients have often viewed themselves as “people pleasers” or “the strong one.”
When I first meet with my clients they often feel like no one knows the real them. They don’t let anyone see their sadness, anger, frustration, or struggles. Everyone around them thinks they are doing fine (maybe even great!) even though they feel like they are barely holding it together. They don’t want to rock the boat, so they hold back their thoughts, feelings, and needs for the comfort of everyone else. They will grin and bear just about anything to avoid a conflict. They feel alone. They are always there when a friend or family member is in pain, but they don’t know how to let someone in to help take care of them. They hold their tears back until they are alone in their car.
My clients come to me and want to live their lives differently. They are tired of making themselves small for the comfort of everyone around them. They want to reconnect with who they are, embrace their full selves, and share their true selves with people they care about to create deep, meaningful relationships. That’s where I can help. I will meet you where you are. I understand that if you are not used to asking for support, therapy might feel very unnatural, weird, and maybe even scary for you. Therapy is not the same for every person, and we will move at a pace that works for you.
I believe the most important aspect of therapy is creating a beneficial, trusting, professional, and therapeutic relationship between myself and my clients. In order to do the brave thing of trying something new, I know we need a safe foundation. I will spend time working to learn about you, your experiences, your identities, and your circumstances, and we will work together to understand how the different aspects of you come together and impact you now. Together, we will work to be aware of what is working for you and what you want to change. We will explore different ways of doing things. And ultimately, we will work together to practice, try, learn, and apply new skills, understanding, and knowledge to achieve your goals. I use Emotion-Focused Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Client-Centered Therapy to help achieve your goals. Check out my website for more information about my fees and services.
As a bisexual/queer woman, I have experienced how powerful it has been to have my own therapist within the LGBTQIA+ community and I greatly value being able to hold that space for my clients. I know that not every concern an LGBTQIA+ person has in therapy stems from their sexual and/or gender identity, and I know that your identities are still important to who you are and your experiences.
I know asking for help can be hard. It may have already taken a lot of courage to even get this far on this website. Like my clients, you deserve to express your beliefs and needs without worrying about disappointing your friends and family. Taking care of yourself is not out of your reach. If you want to embrace your authentic self and let the people who matter most to you do the same, I’d love to help you get there. Let’s talk. Call or email me today to set up a FREE 15-minute consultation to see if we are a good fit and ask any questions you may have. I’d be honored to start getting to know the real you.
