As a queer woman who grew up in several communities based in Christianity, I experienced many perspectives on LGBTQ+ identities, women’s autonomy, and other issues. Many individuals in the LGBTQ+ community come from religious backgrounds, with varying degrees of continued connection to that belief. We as queer people are often excluded, scolded, or harassed for living the way we feel most fulfilled and happy.
I aim to help others with a similar background on their journey to find self-acceptance, free themselves of any resultant guilt or shame, and find belief in something that fits you best, even if that something is yourself. My own experiences as someone who struggled with religious belief and my queer identity give me a unique understanding of those same struggles faced by other queer people from Christian/other religious families or communities.
Due to my background in summer camps, I have years of experience in trauma-informed direct care to children and adolescents in a variety of emotional states, family & economic situations, & level of support needs. I received onsite training from the AuSable Inclusion Center in supporting queer & transgender children, & Crossover Flint in caring for children from unstable backgrounds to best avoid triggers and re-traumatization. In my experience caring for children and adolescents at varying stages in their gender transition journeys, I have found fulfillment in supporting individuals who are finding their true self that I have applied to my current practice.
In addition, I have extensive experience in supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other cognitive/developmental/intellectual disabilities, both in direct peer support and in talk therapy. I tailor my treatment plans to meet the gap many neurodivergent individuals face in traditional talk therapy, adapting my interventions to meet the ND mind where it’s at. As a diagnosed neurodivergent clinician, it is integral to my treatment style to make sure I am best supporting my clients and their needs. I primarily use visual aids, social scripts, and adapted ACT & DBT methods in my treatment to enhance communication skills, boundary setting, emotional understanding, emotional regulation, & self-acceptance and esteem.
I provide telehealth talk therapy services for any & all individuals under the LGBTQ+ umbrella or not; everyone is welcome! I have been professionally trained in supporting individuals seeking gender-affirming medical care, and I am able to provide assessment and recommendation letters for those interventions. I also aim to support anyone who is seeking neurodivergent-specific care. Above all, I aim to create a space where you can take a breath, be heard, and learn how to find the fulfillment we all deserve.
