Hi, my name is Jack Lam (蓝立杰).
I am a genderqueer, non-binary Chinese Malaysian immigrant, who brings a compassionate, anti-oppressive lens to the work I do. My goal is to provide a space for you to understand yourself more deeply, and build a more fulfilling life that is true to your values. I can help with reframing thinking patterns, changing behaviors, building new routines, and delving deeper into traumas that might be affecting the way you think and behave.
I specialize in working with the LGBTQ+ and people of color populations, particularly transgender/non-binary clients who identify as Asian & Asian American. My work with clients have typically included providing a safe, supportive space for those experiencing depression, existential dread, suicidal ideation, anxiety, and trauma. I can also provide information and support as you navigate exploring your gender and sexuality, or your neurodivergence.
I want you to know that you can (and deserve to) have a life that feels joyful and exciting, and I would be more than grateful to support you on your journey.

My approach to therapy includes a blend of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma-Informed & Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Psychodynamic therapy, and here’s how I practice as a therapist:
– Non-Judgmental – Regardless of your past or your present, I maintain a judgment-free zone. I understand what it’s like to hold a marginalized identity and live through trauma. The biggest cure to shame is empathy, and the space that we’ll create will be a safe one where we can walk through your inner experience without judgment or blame. You are valid.
– Context Matters – Mental health can be a very pathologizing space. I am not here to tell you what’s wrong with you, what disorders you have, or how to “fix” you. I believe that we are all products of our environment, and that our context matters. This doesn’t just mean that your past experiences shape you, but also that your current situation shapes you too. Your friendships and romantic/sexual relationships, living and working situation, sociopolitical context – it all plays a part in how you perceive the world, and how you move through it. You are valid.
– Collaborative Space – As a mental health professional, I bring a lot of expertise and knowledge in this space. However, generalized statistics and (biased) research only go so far to capture the human experience. I cannot promise that I will know about every single situation/issue that you face, but I can promise to be honest about what I don’t know, and try my very best to listen to you. I believe that my role is not to tell you who you are and what your problems might be – you are the expert of your own life experience. You are valid.
– Affirming – You are valid. Period!
