James Taylor, MBBChir, MPH, is a colorectal surgeon at Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor, Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Taylor cares for patients with conditions that affect the colon, rectum and anus. He has a special clinical interest in using minimally invasive techniques to treat colon and rectal cancer, managing inflammatory bowel disease, and in the prevention, early detection and treatment of anal cancer. Dr. Taylor’s philosophy of care is to create a personalized and individualized experience for every patient that he meets, and to ensure that they are listened to and feel supported.
In 2009, Dr. Taylor earned his Master of Arts and his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England. In 2011, he became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He continued his medical training in the United States, earning his Master of Public Health in global health leadership at New York University Global Institute of Public Health in 2015. Following this, Dr. Taylor completed his general surgery residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2021, and his colorectal surgery clinical fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 2022.
Dr. Taylor’s research focuses on patient outcomes in colon, rectal and anal cancer. He has a special interest in improving patient-reported outcomes and experiences in colorectal surgery. His work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, and he has given many national and international presentations.
Dr. Taylor is board certified by the American College of Surgeons and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS), the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), the International Anal Neoplasia Society (IANS), and the Association of Out Surgeons and Allies (AOSA).
