I am a psychiatrist and the founder of Silver Lining Psychiatry. My particular interests include obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, depression, ADHD, and the intersection of these conditions with other areas of a person’s life. I believe good psychiatric care goes beyond identifying symptoms and selecting a medication. My approach is collaborative and psychotherapy-informed, with attention to the personal, developmental, and social factors that shape a person’s mental health. My treatment philosophy is intentionally not focused on simply prescribing medication as quickly as possible. I view medication management as an opportunity to understand what is happening in a person’s life, why symptoms may have developed or persisted, and what combination of treatments is most likely to help.
As a gay man, I understand the importance of having a doctor who is affirming, respectful, and genuinely comfortable discussing LGBTQ+ identities and experiences. I recognize that LGBTQ+ patients may encounter unique stressors related to coming out, family and relationship dynamics, minority stress, discrimination, body image, identity development, and navigating healthcare systems. At the same time, I do not assume that every LGBTQ+ patient’s concerns are related to their identity. My goal is to understand each person as an individual and to create a space where patients can decide what aspects of their identity are important to their care.
While I am originally from New York, I have spent the majority of my adult years in the Midwest, completing my undergraduate education at the University of Michigan, medical school at Rush Medical College, and psychiatry residency at the University of Chicago. My training has provided me with broad experience in psychiatric evaluation and treatment across a variety of clinical settings. I have also worked in university-based mental health settings, as well as an LGBTQ+ psychiatry clinic, experiences that have shaped my particular interest in working with young adults, students, and LGBTQ+ patients.
My goal in building Silver Lining Psychiatry is to create a practice where patients feel heard rather than reduced to a diagnosis. I strive to provide care that is thoughtful, individualized, evidence-informed, and LGBTQ+ affirming. I currently accept patients in Illinois via telehealth and will soon be expanding to New York.
