Throughout my career as a therapist I have been honored to support individuals in the LGBTQ+ community. At this point in my career my caseload generally is about 80-90% clients who are LGBTQ+. I see clients in Wisconsin and Illinois via teletherapy or in my office in Rockford, IL. My passion comes in part from identifying as a pansexual woman and active participation in the LGBTQ+ community. In my role as a therapist much of what I do is support people to build awareness about their relationship with themselves, with others and with their mental health. This often involves acknowledgement of how we are impacted individually while living in a society that is systematically prejudice and discriminatory against those in the LGBTQ+ community.
I support clients through individual and relationship therapy, I have personal and professional experience with non-monogamous relationships, kink community and am affirming of people who participate in relationship anarchy. I greatly enjoy the work I do and most often incorporate narrative therapy, solution focused therapy and approach things with a perspective that values social justice. I do provide gender affirmation letters and support clients in all phases of transitioning, including questioning, social or medical transition or those who have reached a place that they are living fully as themselves but need support in other areas of life. I also often support clients who are grieving the loss of family members, not due to death but because their family members are unwilling to prioritize the relationship with my client.
My clients have given me feedback that my strengths are connecting on an authentic level, deeply listening, responding with warmth, and providing structure for dealing with difficulties when they feel lost. I participate in ongoing training to improve my skills as a therapist for LGBTQ+ individuals and on a personal level I am always working to develop my understanding of how the current issues impact myself and my clients. I update my current availability on a monthly basis, check my contact page to see my availability. Send me an email or give me a call if you are interested in establishing with me!
